Eastern Grey Squirrel (Sciurus carolinensis)





Eastern Grey Squirrel

Eastern Grey Squirrels love Lincoln Park. They can be found almost everywhere, they have a fluffy tail with colors like black, white, grey, and sometimes a hint of brown. If you look at their head it is mostly a red to brown color and their body is mainly a grey color but some brown here and there. They usually like to stop and sit when they see you. When they do notice their white colored belly.

If you look underneath rocks and logs you'll most likely find pillbugs here! Their body segments or plates are grey in color and allow them to roll up in a ball whenever they feel threatened. They have about 7 legs and two antennas on their head.

Banana Slug (Ariolimax columbianus)





Banana Slug

If you're lucky you might find a Banana slug on the trail or in logs. A Banana slug has a cylinder body shape and it is soft. The whole body is yellow in color and has dark spots on its body. Their eyes are stalked and usually they have a huge breathing hole on the side of it's front end, but this particular slug I was unable to locate the breathing hole.



Dark-eyed Junco (Junco hyemalis)


Dark-eyed Junco

Dark eyed Junco and many of the other bird species here at Lincoln park like the shrubs and bushes, where they usually gather food or nesting material. A dark-eyed Junco has a black colored head and chest, with a brown back, and a grey colored bottom, the belly is white in color and the outer tail feathers are white. The beak/bill has a white- pale pink color.

Mallard

You can usually find Mallard ducks near the beach portion of the park. Mallard males have a green colored head and neck with a white ring following the green on the neck. Has a dark colored (purplish) chest, and a dark colored rump. The body and wings are grey in color and tail white. The bill of male mallard is yellow. A Female Mallard is usually heavily mottled brown and has an orange bill with a dark spot, she has a blue wing patch that is bordered with white.
